Inside a Modern Collision Center: How ADAS Calibration Works

Modern luxury vehicles are equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)—features like lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking. These systems rely on cameras, sensors, lidar, and radar units that must be precisely aligned.


After a collision, even a minor one, these systems can become misaligned due to the impact, or if certain components must be removed to facilitate repairs. We spend additional time during repair planning/diagnosis measuring and verifying that sensor mounting areas are within factory tolerances. That’s why ADAS calibration is a critical part of the repair process.


At Pacific Collision Center, calibration begins after structural and body repairs are completed. Depending on the vehicle, this may involve static calibration (performed in a controlled environment using targets and measurements) or dynamic calibration (performed while driving under specific conditions).


Precision is everything. Even a slight deviation (even down to an uneven floor where the calibration is being performed) can cause systems to react incorrectly—or not at all.
